Crew: William (NPC) - Captain Sonya E. Gulliver - Pilot Isaac Thatcher - Surgeon Ayden Richter - Cook/Medic Vanessa Harvey (NPC) - engineering/demo Siobhán "Pixie" Brannigan - Security Tech/Hacker Rex Yangtree - Security Skarlet - Assassin/Thief Arsene Lupin - Conman/Tech The Galiano was deep into the Black, having left Greenleaf shortly after the Glory. William had received some information, and funds, from Doc prior to lift off. They had their assignment, and it fit in with his plans as well. They were on their way to Ezra, to the Skyplex there. A crate of weapons, who's destination was covertly rerouted to a fictitious recipient, is their target. To get in, and get out with the crate, without raising any suspicion. A good opportunity for Lupin and Skarlet, the covert types, to practice their skills. The others could act as backup and security once a plan was in place. They sat around the common table, discussing ideas. |

Sonya flew the boat, straight and true. She logged in the flight plans with her intuitive style, checked with the computer and made the usual corrections. Navigation, flight plans, efficiency of gravity fields and slingshots using the same; along with the avoidance of the vast pattern of Alliance and other craft. That was not her forte; though in these times, that might be something they could use more of. Sonya Gulliver was trained well enough, but she was a seat of the pants hotshot flyer. She had been young when she learned. But she flew for fun then. Now, it was just too business like. ... and she was in a funk. ![]() More than a funk. The darkness was riding up over her, low and high. All oncompassing. It was bad enough she'd sent her son, Ian, off with Karyn; but Ian had seemed to think this was best. She didn't understand him half the time. Love him always, but hell; to be honest, the lad scared the Gose out of her. He seemed to understand things too well. And he wanted to go with Karyn. To safety. To meet up with her relatives: Hera. Or St. Albans. And now she was going to war. .... Planning. Again, not her forte. She'd fly. She could shoot well enough, and... .. gorram. She had luck. "uh, I don't know. If you can use my ancient notoriety... somehow." She smiled with less than a half-hearted attempt. "otherwise I'll just fly in and save your gigu when it all goes to hell in .. a uh, handcart, .. whatever the gorramadam a handcart is." Then she smiled that little charm school smile, the one where she intended for it to be fake. Some said it was her sexiest. Others, that it made her look stupid.

The bonfire hadn't exactly been a teary reunion for Skarlet. She had mostly stayed to herself, her own head doing it's viscous work to make sure that she was never lonely. The new job did interest her. It seems that the crew didn't see her as a squatter that was here for the free ride, her skills were needed on the Galiano after all. The fact was obvious the moment their captain had told them about their next job. Skarlet seemed to sit a little easier at the table, next to Isaac. Skarlet's normal crazed smile turned into a shark toothed grin once the Galiano's current job fell into her hands. Keeping prisoners alive, rendezvous after rendezvous, digging up graves, it was all the type of grunt work the pirate crew would force her to do rather then let her have some real fun. However Skarlet's attention wasn't quite so clear to see. Her eyes would flicker towards him for a moment, looking to see if she attracted his attention at all. Between him, and her voices she had plenty of distractions from the details being given to her about the job. Although the opportunity to make some money held her attention plenty. Of course, the need for backup, as well as keeping things quiet made it obvious that this wasn't going to be flying in to pick up some money laying around. "So how many guns are in this crate? Because me and Lupin might need some help if we're lifting an entire armory." Skarlet was also asking this to try and gague how much money they were getting for this. She had some familiarty with the guns trade. Isaac made some money off of running guns. Flaying people alive didn't exactly keep a ship running. The notion also got Skarlet's mind running. "Sonya's burried treasure might have sucked, but this sounds much better. Close enough to a chest of gold!" "You should be asking why we need the cloak and dagger... they're hiding something from you." "So what if he's hiding someone, sounds like the opportunity for us to have some real fun. It has been too quiet here, I was begining to wonder how much some of these people would scream if I had my way." There was all some truth hidden behind their words. The voices did present their temptations to Skarlet. However they were all concerns in her mind. |

REX. Covert operations was something with which the former Major Yangtree did not have a lot of experience. His operations were forcing a squad of marines onto a boat that didn't want them coming. That meant a lot of things blowing up and shooting until they yield, which ... they hardly ever did. Rex Yangtree pointed out some security features, guards, the likely way they'd react if the alarm was sound. A couple of nice extraction options. But the sneaking in part, that would be someone else running that aspect of things. And Ayden Richter was waiting. They'd not said much. He'd seen the so called kitchen just before the meeting had started. It was a mess, and not much of a kitchen left: storage and alternate uses. paste and cans for preparation. Yangtree smiled. She had a fire Ayden did. that kitchen should do the trick. But then she wasn't really here for... she tracked him down. Found him. After all the years when she'd sent him away. |

It had been a busy few days since Siobhán had joined Galiano. In fairness it was mostly self-imposed, driven by the need to get Galiano's electronic defences, both hardware and software up to what she considered to be the minimum safe level. It started with a thorough analysis of what the ship had in the way of electronics and vulnerabilities and from there to hardware design and build with a bit of software on top. It had kept her away from most of the rest of the crew and while she would greet anyone who came across her cheerfully she managed fairly quickly to send them on their way, usually with a spiel of techno-talk that glazed most eyes quickly. By the time the planning meeting was called Siobhán was confident she had the most important bases covered. The Pixie didn't say much during the first part of the discussion, instead covertly observing the rest of the crew. In some respects it was reminiscent of the war years, putting together a plan for an extraction mission. The difference being that this appeared to be an irregular crew with what she felt were motives of their own while she had generally been involved with groups of people who at least had common cause. Siobhán was prepared to accept that her assessment was flawed which was why she watched and analysed, rather than leaping to hard and fast conclusions or offering opinions of her own. The hardest thing of all was to determine who was really in charge with no one actually seeming to step up and take a leadership role. "Perhaps the Captain is doing the same," she thought, "watching and analysing and seeing if anyone does step up." For the meantime, Siobhán wasn't prepared to do that but she was prepared to, if necessary, even if she was outranked, or would have been outranked if the war had been official, like the last one, by at least one person at the table.

SONYA There was a bit of a lull in the conversation as everyone looked over some layouts, floorplans, information on some people they may encounter. It wasn't for her, or at least so Sonya assumed. She'd be flying, she wasn't any kind of stealthy on-the-sly operative. Skarlet seemed to understand this business, yet she always seemed to be distracted a bit. Sort of a spaz? Like she was listening to someone else. Hell, Sonya knew what that was like. 'hoo boy' she thought. She had seen her muttering to herself from time to time. Of course that didn't mean anything. Gorram gunfighters on Glory had names for their guns. Nothing unusual, people in the black were almost always wacky as a fruity oat bar. She looked over at the techie. Earlier she'd asked about the comm systems, been given some technical jargon about wavelengths and microbursts to hide the signal. 'couldn't she have just said that?' But Gulliver had looked over the screens operating displays and she understood now. At least how they would work 'actual': tracking, direction, positioning, channel switching among crew. Simple to work, which would make any 'field work'... isn't that what the operatives called it? - much easier. The little woman had been looking a bit at everyone else before, now seemed engaged in studying the plans. "I like the comm system, easy to use. I can monitor and convert to text so I don't have to divert my attention in real time." Sonya smiled to let the woman know she got it. What was her nickname? She was cute as a bunny, no, not a bunny. One of those little earth-that-was tiny people. "Nice work Pixie." |

![]() William nodded to the new techie. "With the builtin stealth coding, your enhancements fit right in. And the comms are all ready to go." He tossed a handful of ear buds onto the table for each to pick up. "They're all set to our scrambled frequency. What we want to do is to act like just normal visitors, while scanning for trouble. Pixie, Rex, you work security and hacker if we need; Lupin and Skarlet, you act as the receivers of the crate. Fake IDs, Lupin, you're good for those? We have the shipping invoice here," he stabbed at one of the documents, "So just work up assignments for this bogus organization: Mobius Interstellar. I'll tag along as backup. Sonya, you and Vanessa stay behind, our two medics can decide to either stay or tag along. Might be good to have one along incase things get tanked." He stood back and waited for responses. |

A Couple of Hours Ago Getting on the Galiano had seemed easy enough but since then, she felt like her blood pressure was out of control. She was so stressed, so frustrated and so... She thought about how else she would characterize her feelings right now. Oh! Here was the perfect one that tied everything up in one word and tied it with a bow on top. She was angry. No... She was livid. That was better. Could a person be angrily livid though? She took a breath and decided to lose herself in cooking. It was a way she could occupy herself and just... create. So she grabbed the containers of flour and sugar she had, along with some dehydrated blueberries and headed that way. She had an idea of just how she could calm herself and make a good impression with the crew. She just didn't expect to see the condition of the "kitchen," if you could call it that. She swore and decided to close the door to the place so she could swear when she wanted to at whatever she found and not bother anyone else. Plus she just wanted to be alone at the moment. It was quite obvious that these people probably subsides on protein and military rations alone. There was no way anyone could cook in there in any kind of reasonable fashion. On the left were cabinets and upon opening one and seeing some weapons stored, she knew it wasn't full of victuals. She did know that one of them was hers, so she figured that it would now become her pantry. A small pantry anyway. For the stuff she wanted to keep out of the other's reach. Like the sugar, flour and blueberries she was currently holding. She put them inside her cabinet and moved on to surveying the scene. On the right side, there was a storage cabinet and a work table, but they were rather cluttered. That would not do, she needed some space to create her very special brand of magic. She began cleaning and after a good amount of time, she had the table to the state that it could be suitable to prepare food on and she made a decent sized section to store foodstuffs. She would have to ask the Captain if they could clean out the rest on the storage cabinet and stock up on some staples. For emphasis, she found two pieces of paper and wrote on them "PANTRY" and "PREP TABLE - FOOD ONLY." Then she affixed them to the proper areas so everyone would know. She stood back and regarded it before adding a note to the table - "OR ELSE." She shrugged and then turned to the appliances. Or appliance really. The only thing she saw was a food processing unit where someone ration blocks could be loaded for dispensing. Seriously? They really were basically eating protein? And there wasn't much of a cooktop? She needed a heat source. It was a good thing that she knew enough about food processing units that they could be modified to become basically the ETW version of a toaster oven. It would have to do. Once she did that, she got to work, mixing up a batch of blueberry muffins and popping them into the processor. She would have to keep an eye out on the thermostat to make sure things cooked evenly and didn't explode in a bevy of sparks. Knowing her, the gorram thing was defective as well. So she sat down, wiping her brow and kept ever vigilant on her creation. Finally it was done. Now She opened the door, letting the aroma of her work waft out of the kitchen to spread to the rest of the ship. In doing so, she realized then that the room had become a virtual sauna. She made a note to cook with the door opened, if possible. Looking forward, she saw the lounge was occupied and there seemed to be some kind of meeting going on. She could see Rex, but he hadn't caught sight of her yet (or at least she hoped not). This was a perfect time to give the crew a test drive of her food. She looked back inside and also got another idea too and saw what else she needed. She put the warm muffins in a clean towel and used that to carry them to the lounge. When she came in, she caught some of what was said. "...Sonya, you and Vanessa stay behind, our two medics can decide to either stay or tag along. Might be good to have one along incase things get tanked." "I'll volunteer to go," she said as she came up to the table, opened the towel and began to place a muffin in front of everyone. She was a medic after all. She made sure that everyone got one, even herself, with the exception of one person. Rex. For him, she had grabbed a couple of protein cubes and tossed them in front of him. "Must have miscounted," she said as she shrugged and took a bite of her own muffin. "My apologies... Roomie." With that, she sat down and was ready to pay attention. Inside she enjoyed just a little bit of satisfaction. It wasn't much, but it would do for now. |

Isaac only listened to the with half-interest as he spent most of his focus on an article from an online medical journal on his encyclopedia. His job was typically to handle the result of a firefight, not so much the participation of one. Not to mention that some of the more seasoned people sitting at the table could've made his experience with firearms seem almost trivial. He leaned back into his chair and finally managed to tear his eyes away from the words on the encyclopedias screen, glancing over everyone in the room. The number of people present whom he had spoken to for more than a sum of a few minutes could have been counted on one hand. Isaac had a tendency to keep to himself and had barely even spoken to any of the newcomers outside of attempting to obtain their medical information. Even then, that mostly boiled down to a quick examination, filling out some paperwork, and answering a handful of questions for whatever couldn't be found on their medical records. In that regard, it was Skarlet who proved to be the most troublesome. Without even a proper name to search for over the cortex, he had to ask her a good deal more personal questions than he would've liked and eventually cut their session short after obtaining enough information to at least make her a proper file. He still has to run a proper blood test for her soon, as well as administer a few inoculations. Despite this, he kept pushing it off as he always seemed to hesitate whenever he tried to call her to the infirmary. Something about that girl kept bothering him and the way that he noticed her staring at him did not help ease the situation for him any. His current train of thought soon prompted him to take a sideways glance at the girl in question, as if he were checking to make sure that she wasn't trying to read his mind or something. Isaac's attention was quickly pulled back into the conversation as William spoke. One of the newcomers who, for some reason, was carrying a towel full of muffins volunteered to go along for the job. She seemed young and her medical experience was something that Isaac was quickly left feeling dubious about. He furrowed his brow as he chimed in, "I'm sorry, but where exactly did she get her medical training?" He turned to face Ayden as he continued speaking, "Not to be rude, but you don't quite come across as an 'elbows deep in entrails' kind of girl." |

"Sonya said: "Nice work, Pixie." Siobhán looked across at the pilot and her smile became warmer and somehow seemed to suggest that it was especially for Sonya. For a little while her gaze lingered on Sonya before she turned her head back to the plan. After a few more moments she glanced back up at Sonya and it was possible to see that a slight flush had crept across Siobhán's face before she again turned her attention back to the table. Siobhán didn't know why Sonya's comment had affected her in such a way and if asked, she would flatly deny that any such effect had occurred. "William said: "Pixie, Rex, you work security and hacker if we need;" Siobhán nodded her assent. Although she hadn't formalised the thought until William and detailed the assignments, she felt most comfortable working with Rex; perhaps it was the shared outlook of fellow officers, despite the time since the end of the war or perhaps there was something that seemed more stable about him than the others. She didn't have time to properly analyse the whys and wherefores, especially when a muffin materialised in front of her, drawing her attention away from her thoughts. "Thank you, Ayden," she said, taking a bite. While she chewed it, reflecting on how nice it was she noticed the protein cubes landing in front of Rex along with the attitude from Ayden. She looked at Rex and raised a questioning eyebrow while her expression was one of sympathy, though she made sure that Ayden wasn't looking in her direction, not wanting to miss out on muffins, or any other treats, in the future. "Isaac said: ".... Not to be rude, but you don't quite come across as an 'elbows deep in entrails' kind of girl." Siobhán turned her head in Isaac's direction. Now the smile had gone and there was a darkness in her expression that suggested a line had been crossed as far as she was concerned. Arden's behaviour might not have been perfect with respect to Rex but it could be construed as a jest between friends or some sort of semi-serious but otherwise harmless discord between them. Isaac, on the other hand, had, in Siobán's opinion, managed to insult both William and Ayden. "Would you perhaps like to rephrase that question and that statement, Issac," she said quietly and coldly. Her voice held a quiet menace that belied her, until now, unwaveringly sunny disposition. "The Captain has seen fit to hire Ayden as a medic and she is a grown woman, not a girl."

"Would you perhaps like to rephrase that question and that statement, Issac? The Captain has seen fit to hire Ayden as a medic and she is a grown woman, not a girl." Isaac turned to face Siobhán and retorted, "Yes, and I'm sure she has the greatest of intentions. But in my experience, good intentions don't always lead to a severed artery getting closed." He set his encyclopedia on the table and started fiddling with the stylus in his hands, "You ever see some of those doctors on the Rim?. They're a good lot. Kind. Would offer their services to those that need it for little to no cost. Only problem was, they were mostly self-taught from the few texts they had lying around. Or maybe they picked up a few things from the previous doctor. " His face briefly turned to a strange, almost depressed looking half-smile as he looked down at the stylus in his hands, "Seen one that would make you wonder if he'll fair better putting his hands to work as a butcher. Bastard cut off a kid's leg after misdiagnosing a treatable infection... So with that said, my question wasn't nearly as groundless as you may have thought." The tone in his voice seemed to have suddenly changed to one of indifferent resignation, "At any rate, I'll trust William's judgement. Just thought I'd put my concerns on the table, before something serious happens in the middle of things." |

"I don't see how that is relevant," Siobhán said, her voice getting quieter and colder with the menacing undertone becoming more apparent. Her eyes were focused intently on Isacc and a blackness seemed to have crept into them. Few had seen it and lived to bear witness. "Yes, there are incompetent medical professionals out there as in any profession and not just on the rim. And while we are talking about Rim doctors and about field medics, I have seen both do surgery in the field under fire that would do a highly trained surgeon from the Core proud. "But that doesn't address why you have concerns about Ayden's competence in particular? Is it because she is young? A woman? Pretty? I fail to see how any of those things are grounds for concern over her abilities and you certainly haven't given us anything more concrete. "For that matter, we could question your competence with just as much validity." The tiny woman's eyes remained on Isaac as she wondered if her message had actually got through to him. She hoped it had; in her opinion they had wasted enough time on the subject already and, if what she saw as the man's sexist, ageist arrogance was anything to go by, she would much rather Ayden was the one tending any wounds she might receive on the coming mission. It wasn't something she was prepared to say out loud just yet. Throughout her speech and subsequently, Siobhán's voice had remained calm and cold with no sign of anger or emotion in her tone or body language.

Isaac pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance at Siobhán's hostility towards him as he replied, "I wouldn't give a rat's ass if she were an octogenarian man with an arse for a face." His hand fell onto his knee as he leaned forward in his seat, "You want to know some reasons for why I'm concerned? How about that I can't seem to find any information of her medical license over the cortex?" Isaac did however find some records regarding Ayden's stay at a psych ward as a part of her medical history, which itself brought many more concerns, but decided it would be far too unethical to even consider mentioning at the moment. So instead, he focused on the simplest problem at hand. He sighed to calm himself down before turning to Ayden and asking her with a completely straight face, "I take it you received your training on the Rim? Maybe from a school that's not properly registered with Alliance records? Perhaps you took online courses? Anything like that?" No hospital in the Core would even look at applicants without some medical board testing them for their license first. But the Rim was different. It was much rougher. Desperate even, in some places. But even still, Isaac didn't like the idea of medical practice being taken lightly. Operating on someone isn't like baking a muffin, screwing up typically leads to someone dying. Even if no mistakes were made, people can die anyway. Suppose she already knew that, what about the guilt? Isaac remembered his first death and how hard it had hit him during in his early days in New Cardiff. Has Ayden ever experienced that before? If not, would she even be able to endure it? James briefly came to mind, prompting a quick glance towards William that didn't even last a second before he retrieved his encyclopedia from the table and adding, "You know what? You don't have to answer. Like I said, I'll trust William's judgement. Might be he's more familiar with your capabilities than I am." Edited by Ringo, Dec 11 2014, 12:29 AM.

REX YANGTREE Rex smiled at the cubes of proto-crap Ayden had tossed at him. He looked at her. He was greatly amused. That was her, bottom soft as silk, backbone like titanium. Christ and Buddha in the bath he wanted her. There on the table, in 'their' room. Then the little one got into it with the doc. They got each other's dander up, farther than he'd have allowed, but he wasn't boss her. "All right bones," he gave a look at Isaac, "and spitfire." and Siobhan. He looked to Ayden, "you're right Isaac, Captain's call. But taking a medic in the field is the general practice. Surgeon isn't expendable, and a cook that can't count rations. . . I mean, what would be the loss?" "Anything else you know how to do" he asked while his eye's looked over her bosom and a little cube of protein went up in the air and he caught it in his mouth. ====== SONYA GULLIVER Sonya leaned back in her chair. The little tech... Siobhan.... she'd blushed. Oh this might be interesting. Then a couple of the crew seemed to get in to it. Sonya couldn't quite figure out what it was all about, but she stopped focusing on Siobhan for a moment to try and figure it out. She didn't, little pissing contest or something. Didn't take long did it? Yangtree was trying to take charge, that subtle little way some men do. All smooth and A type. ... 'spitfire' he called her, the pixie. Sonya looked again at her. yeah maybe, maybe... She looked over her shoulder as she finished the muffin. Gulliver wanted out of this meeting. "gorram good Ayden. good grub." she said nodding and then looking over the table to make sure no one had left their's uneaten. Edited by Tojoyama, Dec 11 2014, 01:11 PM.

William watched while the Doc and Pixie had it out. A slow smile grew and he settled back into the chair, munching thoughtfully on the muffin. He thought about how he took Ayden at her word as a medic, while certainly, Isaac had the documentations to qualify him as a full qualified surgeon. It was something that a Captain would do in the Rim or Border Worlds. Until found different, one would accept a verbal classification. If found to be false, there were severe repercussions. A short walk out the airlock was one example. |

"Now that was't hard, was it?" the Pixie said, the smile returning to her face and the blackness vanishing as quickly as it had arrived. "All you had to say at the beginning was that you were having trouble finding the requisite information and needed Ayden's help to track it down." Siobhán intended to have a quiet word with Isaac when she had the chance, to apologise, perhaps but mainly to point out that he shouldn't have brought up Ayden's apparent lack of credentials in a whole-crew meeting, that he should have first talked to Ayden and then William. She didn't really know him but she was prepared, now, at least, to give him the benefit of the doubt with respect to his knowledge of leadership. She had gained some of that the hard way and was happy to pass it on but in private where he could take time to digest it rather than in public where he would only start getting grumpy again. She had only called him on it in public because he had brought the matter up in public in what she still considered was an insulting manner. Rex said: ".... and spitfire" She smiled at him and then glanced briefly across at Sonya to see how she had reacted to both the 'discussion' and to Rex having called her 'spitfire' and glanced away again, hiding behind the muffin while her face again coloured slightly at the thought that Sonya might have detected her glance. "These are good muffins, Ayden," she said, having eaten her first mouthful and then continued to eat the rest of the muffin in bird-sized mouthfuls, savouring the taste and texture. Her eyes widened along with her smile in anticipation as a prelude to each attack on the muffin.

Skarlet stayed silent to gauge the newcomers that had been introduced. Having a hacker would be useful, electronic locks and cameras always brought trouble. But her silence was also her listening to Isaac's concerns. Deep seated scars within her mind ensured that she listened. He didn't seem to notice how his presence was effecting the madwoman, but how could he? Lately he had been asking her plenty of questions. He might have seen something off about her response. Skarlet had tried to answer as quickly and concisely as possible. The old Isaac used to use vagueness as an excuse to torment her further. Regardless the way that she treated him versus the others was quite distinct. During the entire meeting she had trouble pulling her eyes off of him. The presence of Isaac also brought a fresh topic for the voices to argue over. Even as he was speaking they were trying to convince weather to trust him or kill him. Skarlet herself was having trouble over the decision. Her captors had done their job well. The copies of Skarlet hovered over the entire meeting, unseen phantoms visible only to the madwoman. They didn't obey any laws of reality, a blink and they would all shift places. They ensured that Skarlet didn't need to pay too much attention to the back and fourth between the woman and Isaac. "He's just like the others, why are you even thinking like that?" The voices always seemed to know what Skarlet was thinking about, then again they were figments of her demented mind. "He's nice! He's not like the old Isaac." The more innocent of the voices hovered close to Isaac. Hiding behind his chair as if he could protect her from the more viscous of her sisters. "He wouldn't hurt us." The copy's head snapped towards her, "You used to always say that about the old Isaac, you thought that we could forgive him when we were flaying him alive." She weakly fought back, "Is it?" It was serving to be quite a distraction from the meeting, she had barely noticed the new cook placing a muffin on the table in front of her. She picked it up, examining it for a moment before setting it back down. The voices in her head were only worried about Isaac, not about the fact that this job could get Skarlet thrown into a cell or killed. The discussion over Isaac's remarks seemed to have settled down, and Skarlet took a mental note that Isaac had been looking up medical records on everyone. Good luck finding hers, not even Skarlet knew what her birth name was, any records after that would be wanted posters. "getting back to the job. How crowded is this planet? Because if there's security around they might notice this." Skarlet held up her hand, the chain connected to the rifle propped up against the table rattling to help demonstrate her point. "I'd prefer to keep it around... but I can always take off the stock and keep that with me." Skarlet had done it before when she had to keep a lower key. Tying the chain to her arm to reduce the noise and keeping the stock on a pack. Edited by Skarlet, Dec 13 2014, 08:44 AM.

Ayden appreciated all the compliments and thank yous she got from her ship mates regarding the muffins. It felt good to cook again. It felt right, even if she was baking out of a modified food processor. That appreciation died away when she heard the offhanded remarks from the ship’s doctor. "I'm sorry, but where exactly did she get her medical training?" "Not to be rude, but you don't quite come across as an 'elbows deep in entrails' kind of girl." Ayden’s eyes narrowed at him. Not to be rude? Is that what you say in order to be exactly as rude as you want? How dare he? He didn’t even know her and he had to bring this up in front of everyone? Couldn’t he have asked her on a one-on-one basis? She was about to say something, but the one they called Pixie, spoke up. "Would you perhaps like to rephrase that question and that statement, Issac," "The Captain has seen fit to hire Ayden as a medic and she is a grown woman, not a girl." It was nice. She hadn’t had anyone stand up for her a while. She started to talk but the doctor spoke before she could. "Yes, and I'm sure she has the greatest of intentions. But in my experience, good intentions don't always lead to a severed artery getting closed." Now Ayden was just confused. What was he talking about? There hadn’t been any injuries of any kind since she got on board. She watched him as he plopped his encyclopedia on the table. Was he trying to make some kind of point? Did he not want an extra set of hands? "You ever see some of those doctors on the Rim?. They're a good lot. Kind. Would offer their services to those that need it for little to no cost. Only problem was, they were mostly self-taught from the few texts they had lying around. Or maybe they picked up a few things from the previous doctor." Then he went on to lament over a kid who lost his leg due to a doctor’s misdiagnosis. What in the good gorram did that have to do with her? "...So with that said, my question wasn't nearly as groundless as you may have thought." "At any rate, I'll trust William's judgement. Just thought I'd put my concerns on the table, before something serious happens in the middle of things." At this point Ayden was starting to become angry and it seemed that she wasn’t the only one. Pixie fired back at him, reminding him that incompetency can happen anywhere in the ‘Verse, not just on the Rim. Plus she brought up that they could technically be asking the same thing of him. "I wouldn't give a rat's ass if she were an octogenarian man with an arse for a face." Excuse me? Ayden thought as she glared at the man. What an ass. "You want to know some reasons for why I'm concerned? How about that I can't seem to find any information of her medical license over the cortex?" He turned to look at her directly. "I take it you received your training on the Rim? Maybe from a school that's not properly registered with Alliance records? Perhaps you took online courses? Anything like that?" Ayden very smoothly set her muffin down as she gripped the towel she had with ferociousness. "You know what? You don't have to answer. Like I said, I'll trust William's judgement. Might be he's more familiar with your capabilities than I am." Then Rex had to go stick his two cents in. "All right bones," "and spitfire." "you're right Isaac, Captain's call. But taking a medic in the field is the general practice. Surgeon isn't expendable, and a cook that can't count rations. . . I mean, what would be the loss?" Oh. My. God. Was he actually oogling her? And the barb about counting rations? OK. Two asses. There were two asses on board. "Anything else you know how to do" Yes, he was definitely leering. God she hated him. Sonya and Pixie both gave her a compliment on a muffin then, which got her back in the right mind. She had to answer. ”To answer your question, you didn’t find a medical license for me because I am not a doctor. I am a medic. I have a certification, not a license. I also don’t do surgery unless it is the last possible course of action. I am not a surgeon; you are. I am a medic,” she began with a calm and icy tone. ”I am also not some backwater hick. Don’t treat me like one. I would never take a job as a medic without certification from an accredited school. On Persephone, not on the Rim. So why don’t you just step off, dong ma?” She turned to Rex. ”I know how to count rations, you hundan. I had the count exactly the way I wanted it,” she growled as she raised an eyebrow at him. ”And keep your eyes to yourself.” She took a deep breath and then sat down in order to calm herself. He blood pressure felt like it was soaring through the sky. She looked at Pixie and mouthed the word “Thanks.” Then a thought hit her. Maybe she should go trooping around in Isaac’s professional file and see what she could find out about him? Turnabout is fair play and all that. Luckily, someone opened the door for the briefing to resume. It was the girl named Skarlet. "getting back to the job. How crowded is this planet? Because if there's security around they might notice this." Ayden took a look at what Skarlet was motioning to. Was that a rifle? Chained to her arm? She shook her head and made a note that the woman might not all be there. Nothing wrong with that, but it is always good to know. "I'd prefer to keep it around... but I can always take off the stock and keep that with me." She let go of the towel and picked her muffin back up as she tried to calm herself. She couldn’t help but smirk at Rex since it was a good probability that he was still watching her, then took a bite of the muffin, closed her eyes and savored it with bliss. Unable to count my ass, she thought. Edited by abbey, Dec 13 2014, 06:01 PM.

Rex Yangtree recognized the firery Ayden, but the old give and take wasn't there. She was mad, angry. So why did she track him down. He diverted his eyes from her, trying not to show his dismay he took to the task; much of which the Captain had discussed. Some of it he had planned. The part about Lupin and Skarlet walking in covertly, that was the part he wasn't sure about. "Getting in the front door should be ok, we have the fake transponder to land and the IDs to get Skarlet and Lupin in the front door. Siobhan will have a link to monitor security at the site. Any trouble and I'll be in reserve to come in and help you get out." He turned to Siobhan, "Can we use comms? check out the systems." "There's hover lifts to move anything to heavy." There were files and data disks, all provided by the Captain and their mysterious new Independent army bosses. "Easy peasy." said Sonya, "I mean my part." ((per narrator)) |

After the lack luster events prior Lupin was certainly glad to hear the latest turn of events. Being involved in a planned robbery was certainly a nice change of pace. Plus larceny and fraud were among two of his favorite crimes. He sat quietly at the table listening to the others while scheming and plotting in his head for any requirements that may come up along the way..
"Fake IDs and profiles are a specialty of mine. I can put something together easy enough, even went so far as to create a company on paper complete with a board of directors so this should be a cinch." He began playing with a design for the cards and causally began working on it on his tablet all while taking in the squabble between the doctors. He knew their feud was going to be no good and while he didn't know much about medicine he certainly knew you don't piss off the people you might need to patch you up if the time came. Instead he kept out of their quarrel and silently worked while occasionally enjoying his muffin. Soon Scarlet brought up one of the bigger questions, "She's got a point about that cannon she's lugging around. Any idea if that'll be an issue? Otherwise I'm already liking what I'm hearing. Like you said, land, show ID, walk in get the goods, push it out on a lift and away we go. Anything goes wrong make a couple of good legal threats and worst comes to worst we got the option to shoot our way out. Which brings me back to a question relating to her," he pointed causally to Scarlett. "Would their security be lax enough to let her walk in with that gun?" He figured now wasn't so much the time to question the lady's sanity and potential to go off at a bad time so he focused only on the obvious issue. (sorry for the delay combo of the recent pace here and getting use to a 10hr shift had me not checking up on LIS) |
